Saly Fayez

Saly Fayez began working with victims of violent crime as an intern with The Center for Victims of Violent Crime (CVVC) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1999. After receiving her Masters in Social Work, she was hired on by CVVC to work in the Prevention Education Department as a Prevention-Education Specialist. She later went on to become the Juvenile Court Advocacy Supervisor where she was responsible for the day-to-day operations of service to victims of juvenile crime.

 In 2003, Ms. Fayez relocated to Northern Virginia where she was hired with the Victim Services Division (VSD) of the Fairfax County Police Department, first as a Victim/Witness Specialist, and since September 2011, as the Director. As a Victim/Witness specialist, Ms. Fayez served victims and witnesses as the victim advocate assigned to one of the counties eight district police stations. Her duties included providing comprehensive services to victims of violent crime while providing detectives and officers the necessary support needed to focus their efforts on the investigation while using her expertise to handle the unique needs of the victims. As the Director of the Victim Services Division, she currently manages a unit of fifteen victim specialists providing system-based victim services to four police jurisdictions. Responsibilities include providing leadership and overall direction of direct services to include 24-hour on-scene crisis response, information and referrals, safety planning, court accompaniment, VINE notification, criminal injuries compensation assistance, and public awareness and outreach.

 Ms. Fayez was tasked to develop the Fairfax County Police Departments Death Notification General Order, and was part of the team responsible for bringing the Lethality Assessment Protocol to the department to assist first responders to tailor the needs of their response to victims of Domestic Violence.  In 2016, Ms. Fayez contributed to Matthew Giblin’s publication, “Leadership and Management in Police Organizations”.

 Ms. Fayez has facilitated trainings and workshops on victim services, grief and loss, and other impacts of crime including sexual assault and homicide. She has also presented to a wide range of audiences including law enforcement, community outreach programs, probation and parole and Child Protective Services. She currently serves on the Fairfax County Fatality Review Team, the Fairfax County Child Abuse Multidisciplinary Team, the Domestic Violence Action Center Advisory Board, and the Fairfax County Domestic Violence Prevention Policy Coordinating Council.

 Ms. Fayez has received honors for her work with crime victims, including a departmental Commendation for her work in supporting survivors and witnesses during the Alfredo Prieto Capital Murder trial. Ms. Fayez has a Masters of Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh with a concentration in Children and Families.
